Medical service & Health promotion
The medical missions of AHU aim to improve the health status of entire populations by providing primary health care for free in areas where medical service is either not accessible or not affordable for the local communities. Each team consists of 2-4 medical professionals and a field coordinator. They consistently work through their chosen area by changing location at every 2-5 days depending on the needs of the communities.

Between 2009 and 2015 more than 30 AHU doctors and medical professionals have treated over 30.000 patients
In order to create a sustainable development process, our organization places increasing emphasis on empowering communities by raising their awareness on essential health questions through education and health promotion, such as drinking clear water, nutrition, or basic treatments of sick children. Working together with the local health staff, such as Village Health Teams workers, midwives, nurses and doctors ensures that a practical knowledge exchange occurs between the participants.
This approach to sustainability has been supported by our priorities to return to the same location several times with different teams. Through this follow-up we gain an insight into the effectiveness of our work, and we are able to measure the performance of our teams by using indirect methods of observation and surveillance.

The safety of our teams are also among the top priorities of AHU. Therefore we carefully assess the political and security situation of each country and area where we plan to deploy our professionals. Our code of conduct forbids cooperation with governments whose integrity is questionable. The quickly changing political climate of the African countries is the reason why since 2009 we have changed our destination countries a few times.

AHU Medical Team
Our organization operates with a base of doctors and medical professionals who volunteer to take part in our various medical programs for free of charge. These idealist people gain not only life time experiences, but through their unique knowledge, they prove to be a useful asset to our societies in the Central-European based programs as well.
