Objectives
The African Hungarian Union alongside with the Hungarian Trade and Cultural Center has decided to establish health centers throughout the African continent.
The objective of the AHU Health Centers Project is to maintain long term and sustainable health care service infrastructure in those African countries where accessibility proves to be a major issue for the population.
The first milestone: AHU Health Center in Kapeke, Uganda
The construction of the first health center of the project started in Uganda in July 2015.
The African Hungarian Union has already organized three medical missions to improve the health status of the people of Uganda. The experience and political connections gained throughout these initiatives have led the organization to establish its first permanent health center in Kapeke village, which lies 85 km away from the capital.
In this region one million people have access to one doctor. Well trained health professionals are extremely rare, the infrastructure of the health system is scarce, and the medical equipment needed for the service are not available. The majority of the population has to pay for the health services and for the medications as well. The most endangered sub-population consists of children and young mothers.
Current status of the project
The construction of the health center in Kapeke started by laying its ground stone on July 16th, 2015.
