Az Afrikai - Magyar Egyesület (AHU - nemzetközi segélyezéssel és fejlesztéssel foglalkozó nonprofit szervezet) önkéntesei hatodik alkalommal indultak el, hogy a világ egyik legszegényebb országába, az afrikai Mali Mamaribogouba vigyenek orvosi segítséget. A szakemberekből álló csapat 2010. június elején Budapestről utazott el, hogy egy hónapon keresztül Afrika olyan falvaiban végezzenek humanitárius feladatokat, amelyekben nincs egészségügyi ellátás, tiszta víz, áram és több ezer ember szennyezett kutak vizét fogyasztja.
Az AHU eddigi öt orvosi missziója rendkívül sikeres volt. Az öt csapat összesen tizennégy orvosa egy-egy hónap alatt összesen több mint tizenötezer beteget látott el, gyógyszert is biztosítva számukra.
Az egyesület idén januárban már egy adományokkal teli, húsztonnás kamiont eljuttatott Bamakóba. Az adományok három ország (Marokkó, Mali, Mauritánia) tizenegy intézményében kerültek szétosztásra. Az AHU további fejlesztési projekteket készít elő Észak-Maliban, Diemában és körzetében.
A mostani misszió két női - dr. Jakkel Anna kecskeméti háziorvos, Keresztes Éva székesfehérvári önkéntes - és egy férfi, dr. Kis Imre tokaji háziorvos - tagja egy kinti magyar koordinátor közreműködésével lát munkához.
Ezenkívül az egyesület egyik célja tudatosítani a magyar társadalomban, hogy a globális felelősségvállalás jegyében az, ami napjainkban Afrikában történik, ránk is hatással van, ezért a kontinens problémái minket sem hagyhatnak hidegen. Az AHU tagja a Nemzetközi Humanitárius és Civil Fejlesztési Szövetségnek (HAND) és az EURAC-nak (Európai Szervezetek Közép- Afrikai hálózata).
A kezelt betegek számának és az orvosi misszió költségének összevetése alapján egy beteg megmentése átlagosan 500-1000 Ft-ba kerül, ezért az egyesület folytatja az adománygyűjtést és várja önkéntes orvosok jelentkezését. A. F.

Volunteers from the non-profit international aid and development organization African Hungárián Union have set out to bring aid to the village of Mamaribogou in Mali, one of the poorest countries in Africa and the world. This is the sixth such expedition. The team left Budapest in early June to spend a month in African and do humanitarian work in villages without proper healthcare, clean water and electricity. Water contamination poses a constant threat to thousands of people here.
The five previous medical missions of AHU were highly successful.
Fourteen doctors in five teams treated over fifteen-thousand patients and provided them with medicine during their one-month stay.
This January the organization has sent a twenty ton truck filled with donations to Bamako. The cargo was distributed among eleven institutions in Morocco, Mali and Mauritania. AHU is laying the foundations of further development projects in Northern Mali and the Diema region.
The current mission will consist Dr. Anna Jakkel, a family doctor from Kecskemét, Éva Keresztes, a volunteer from Székesfehérvár and Dr. Imre Kiss, a family doctor from Tokaj. They will operate in Africa with the help of a Hungárián coordinator.
A further aim of the organization is to raise attention in Hungary to the fact that according to the principle of global responsibility, current events in Africa should concern us, even more so since they affect us as well. AHU is a member of HAND (Hungárián Association of NGOs for Development and Humanitarian Aid) and EurAC (European Network for Central Africa).
By comparing the number of patients treated with the totál cost of the mission, it can be inferred that saving a patient costs 500-1000 forints in average. The organization accepts donations to cover these expenses and welcomes doctors who volunteer to help.
